About Shorewood

The Village of Shorewood was established in 1900 and has a colorful history including several different names such as Mechanicsville, Cementville, and East Milwaukee.

The Village is comprised of approximately 1,000 acres, about 1.5 square miles. Today, it offers four commercial districts in addition to an attractive mix of housing, excellent school system and public transportation.

The commercial districts are marked by unique, one-of-a-kind destination retail businesses interspersed with residential properties. This leads to a rich walking or strolling experience.

Shorewood has gained a reputation for good food, and deservedly so. There is a diverse mix of grocery and specialty food stores with products from all over the world.

Lining Capitol Drive and Oakland Avenue, there are many fine restaurants, too. From coffee shops to bakeries, traditional "Milwaukee-style" neighborhood pubs offering Friday fish fries, to more airy club-style establishments and eclectic dining and drinking - Shorewood can satisfy a complete range of dining tastes. Shorewood also has a reputation for having some of the finest Asian restaurants in the Milwaukee area.

Welcome to Shorewood. More importantly, hurry back for more of what we have to offer.
