SHOWCASE AWARDS
2010 Award Winners Announced
The Showcase Awards were introduced in 2007 by the Shorewood Business Improvement District to recognize businesses that make an important difference to the commercial vitality of Shorewood. Winners are acknowledged for their outstanding leadership, dedication and support of Shorewood’s business district.
Since that time, this awards program has expanded to honor property owners who make a significant investment in the improvement of their property, specifically through the Village/ BID Facade Improvement Program. We also have added a Business Partner category, acknowledging a community organization or department for their commitment and support of Shorewood’s business district.
We are pleased to announce the 2010 Showcase Award winners, and again salute and thank them for contributing to the success of our business district.
BUSINESSES OF THE YEAR
Culver’s is a strong business anchor for Shorewood. Their commitment to excellence continues to bring them numerous awards, including the GM Culver Award, Culver's highest honor for outstanding operations, presented to only one Culver’s restaurant each year. Culver’s gives back to the community in many ways, including support for the Criterium Bike Race, Holiday Shopwalk, Public Art Event, National Night Out, and the 4th of July Parade. Plus, they continually stage in-store fundraisers for our schools.
Chiropractic Company has been “Creating Wellness” in the Milwaukee community for 28 years with their integrated approach to caring for their patients. They are a strong supporter of the Shorewood business district and the Village, including sponsorships of the Criterium Cycling Classic, Holiday Shopwalk, Public Art Events and the summer concert series. Chiropractic Company has been voted “Top Pick” of chiropractors by Milwaukee Magazine. And they have also been awarded the “Worldwide Center of the Year” award twice for achieving the highest impact of all 300 Creating Wellness Centers worldwide.
Harry’s Bar & Grill successfully combines neighborhood charm with big city sophistication, offering fast, friendly service and a menu diverse enough to satisfy any lunch or dinner craving. Harry’s has received a Best of Milwaukee designation by Milwaukee Magazine and continuously gets a 4-star rating from local dining reviews for its quality food and beverages. Over the years, Harry’s has been a strong supporter of our community events and activities, including the Criterium Cycling Classic, Holiday Shopwalk and the Public Art Events.
FAÇADE IMPROVEMENT OF THE YEAR
Mixed-Use Property at 4312-4334 N. Oakland Ave. This property, owned by the Gartenberg and Fry families and home to Sherwin-Williams, Thirst & Vine, Oxford Glass, EYEZ boutique and Salon Divine, went through an extensive makeover in 2009 and received a beautiful new facade, including new windows, brickwork and awnings. An investment of $390,000 was made in the property, with partial funding underwritten by Shorewood’s Facade Improvement Program.
BUSINESS PARTNER OF THE YEAR
The Shorewood Men’s Club has been serving the community for more than 54 years. From the annual Chicken BBQ at Atwater Park to flipping burgers and making ice cream sundaes at the 4th of July celebration, all funds raised by the Men’s Club are donated to Shorewood charities and organizations. We are deeply grateful to the Men’s Club for supporting the Criterium bike race, Holiday Shopwalk, Public Art Events, the summer concert series and so much more!
