Shorewood Business District News – July 2020

Get Funky on the Fire Truck!

After the success of last month’s “Takeout for School’s out” event we figured why not do a round two in what has become our Mobile Music Series! On Friday, July 17th, Old Sam & the Teardrops, with John Sparrow of Violent Femmes and Shorewood’s very own Joe LeSage, will saddle up on a vintage Firetruck and roll through Shorewood from 6 pm til 9 pm. The first hour the truck will stick around the Business District and the final two hours it will be mostly in the surrounding neighborhood.
The idea is not only to hear some great live music safely but also to help out our local stores and restaurants. So dine at our amazing Shorewood outdoor cafes or grab your favorite takeout and head back home to wait for the truck to go by. Let
Steph know if you have requests to have it come down your street!
The event will also be live-streamed from the Shorewood BID Facebook Page

Special shout-out to the Shorewood Foundation for their partnership!

Last week the Village of Shorewood adopted a Mask Ordinance that went into effect on Friday, July 10th. This means that masks are required for everyone over 4 years of age inside all public buildings. We realize that not everyone is comfortable and/or able to wear a mask but please know that we have everyone’s safety top of mind! To read more about the ordinance and what it means for you and/or your business, please CLICK HERE

Speaking of masks, if you need one, Just Goods has you covered (literally.) Many masks, local and fair trade of all sizes, child and adult, with insert for filter. Each mask maker donates to various nonprofits and healthcare workers – Just $10 each with free local delivery. Pick one out from the sale rack outside on the patio or order online at www.justgoods.org  They are open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM outdoors.

This week they are even hosting Pete’s Pops outside the shop on Friday from 3:30 – 7:30pm during the mobile music event!

Please welcome two of our newer businesses, Skn Bar Rx and the Exercise Coach! It’s tough to open during a pandemic…

Skn Bar is located inside the newly restored Hayek Pharmacy building on the corner of Downer Avenue and Capitol Drive. Their emphasis is on skin care education and outstanding experiences. Check them out for a complete medispa experience. (Side note: have you seen the updated Hayek neon signage? Gorgeous!)

The Exercise Coach is located at 3565 N Oakland Avenue in the former Harley Menswear space. You can get into shape with two 20-minute private training workouts per week – I’m intrigued! Here’s a LINK to a recent Journal Sentinel article.

Thanks to everyone who has supported and continues to support our small businesses. It does not go unnoticed and we are so very grateful for the support!

Shorewood Business District News – June 2020

Get out the Funk!

Who caught a glimpse of the Funkclub Wagon last Friday? The Shorewood Business Improvement District was looking for something fun to do amidst a pandemic and the subsequent restrictions on gatherings. The cancellation of the Tour of America’s Dairyland bike races, graduation ceremonies, and our Fourth of July celebrations had left us all in a “funk” so to speak. (Pun intended) Enter… the Funkclub Wagon!
Not only did the Wagon drive through several streets playing music for three hours, but they live-streamed the entire performance which was shared on several Facebook pages. Over 6.5 thousand people saw the live stream and hundreds of residents stepped out to dance and cheer when they were lucky enough to have the wagon drive by their own house.
We definitely want to do this again! Let Steph know if you have suggestions and/or know of any other bands that are willing to drive our streets so we don’t fall into another funk!

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) has opened up a second round of funding for the We’re All In Small Business Grants program which is designed to help small businesses get back on their feet while also encouraging adoption of best practices to keep employees, customers and communities safe.
The program is open to Wisconsin based businesses with few than 20 employees that have less than $1,000,000 in revenue.  To find out more information on eligibility and the application process, click
HERE. Also, email Steph Salvia if you need a letter of acknowledgment stating you were in business as of February 2020.
Applications are due Sunday, June 23rd at 11:59pm so don’t delay!

Last week Shorewood Businesses moved into Phase C of the North Shore Health Department’s reopening plan. While most of our businesses are now open, many have been required to operate at a lower capacity. Some owners are also still working on putting the proper safety measures into place. I want to take a minute to thank all of our business owners for working so hard so help keep everyone safe! To read more about Phase C and what it means for businesses, CLICK HERE

Please continue to support our small businesses in whatever way makes you feel most comfortable while respecting each business owner’s carefully thought out decision.

Kudos to all of our businesses that supported the Black Lives Matter march on Saturday, June 6th.  We had a huge crowd come through our district and our businesses were out in full force supporting with window displays and by distributing food and water. Visit our

Shorewood Business District News – May 2020

Shorewood Is OPEN for Business!

As of today, Friday, May 22nd, Shorewood Businesses are now fully able to open if they so choose. Public health leaders from 18 suburban municipalities have carefully tracked key indicators to guide the safe reopening across the city, county and state. As such, they have outlined recommendations to guide future phases of reopening. As of today, we are beginning Phase B on the chart below. To read the full document issued by our health department, CLICK HERE

We realize that not everyone will be comfortable with returning to businesses that have reopened and we respect and understand that decision. We trust in our public health professionals who will continue to monitor and track the situation closely. Please continue to support our small businesses in whatever way makes you feel most comfortable while respecting each business owner’s carefully thought out decision.

Thanks to a partnership between the Business Improvement District (BID), the Village of Shorewood and the Community Development Authority (CDA,) $300,000 in emergency relief funds were distributed last week to just under 100 businesses in Shorewood! Business owners who held an occupancy permit and who were able to show a 50% reduction in sales due to the virus and its subsequent shutdown were able to apply. Read the OnMilwaukee article HERE
Shorewood Businesses who did not qualify for assistance are also able to apply for funds from a partnership between the BID and the Shorewood Foundation. These funds are for business owners that have not and/or will not be eligible for any other forms of funding.

Our Bars and Restaurants are all in various stages of reopening to make sure that they do so with everyone’s health and safety in mind. CLICK HERE for the most up to date listing. Please be patient as they work hard to provide you with brand new dining/drinking experiences.

Thanks to everyone who has supported and continues to support our small businesses. It does not go unnoticed and we are so very grateful for the support!

BlackBear Children’s Boutique™ launched in 2017 with one simple goal in mind: To offer a finely curated collection of baby and children’s clothing and accessories sure to please parents and children alike.

The BlackBear™ collection specializes in items of superior quality and design from regional, national and global brands. Much of our inventory is inspired by my travels; I shop locally in each new city I visit, often with the hope of discovering something sweet for my loved ones. I’m drawn to simple, purposefully styled items that feature an unexpected twist — a trio of wooden buttons for closure, or perhaps a playful cloth pattern that evokes nostalgia and warms the heart. I select each piece for the boutique with this vision in mind, and source ethically produced products — many of which are manufactured from organic or sustainable, natural materials — whenever possible.
