Shorewood Business District News – March 2022

2025 Pavement Replacement Project

The Village Board’s Public Works Committee will meet virtually on Monday, March 14th at 6:00 p.m. to review recommended project enhancements for the 2025 N. Oakland Avenue (Capitol Drive to Glendale Avenue) pavement replacement.  Pavement replacement on North Oakland Avenue (from East Capitol Drive to the north Village limits) is proposed for 2025. The meeting will include discussion by the Public Works Committee members and opportunities for public input and feedback. The virtual meeting link and agenda can be found here: https://www.villageofshorewood.org/…/Agenda/_03142022-1731.

Improvements will largely occur between the curbs and to underground utilities.  In addition to roadway pavement, the project will replace aging watermain and services the length of the corridor.   The Village Board will also make a determination regarding identified and recommended pedestrian and bicycle safety and green infrastructure enhancements. Ash trees will be evaluated and replaced in accordance with the Village’s Ash Tree Replacement Program. Preliminary engineering and design work is underway.

In 2021, the Village Board directed its consulting engineer to review recommendations from the 2020 Transportation and Parking Analysis, the 2015 Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan and the 2013 Guidebook for Green Infrastructure and explore options for incorporating recommended enhancements into the N. Oakland Avenue project. The village meeting will include discussion by the Public Works Committee members and opportunities for public input and feedback. The virtual agenda and meeting link can be found hereTo read more about the Project History, click here.

It is anticipated that construction will begin in early spring of 2025 and conclude in late fall of that year.  During much of that time parking will be restricted on Oakland Avenue and some adjacent side streets.  Detours may also be necessary during various phases of construction.

The Shorewood Business Improvement District (BID) will continue to keep the community informed of updates on the project, working closely with the Village of Shorewood’s Department of Public Works and communicate necessary information regarding construction.  Plans and updates will also be available on the Village website here.
